Even though Democrats like former Vice President Joe Biden have continued to allege that President Donald Trump somehow doesn’t respect U.S. military troops or veterans, that tired, worn out narrative couldn’t be further from the truth, given the extra time and resources Trump has dedicated to whip America’s military into its best shape ever.
This week, according to CBS News, the Trump administration gifted America’s military veterans and Gold Star families another incredible gift — the ability to enter national parks, national wildlife refuges and other federal lands free of charge, for life.
U.S. Secretary of the Interior David L. Bernhardt signed off on the order in October, which will provide veterans and Gold Star families free access to roughly 2,000 public locations spread out over a staggering 400 million acres of public lands in the United States.
“The Trump Administration is committed to honoring American patriots – the men and women who have served in our armed forces,” Bernhardt said. “With the utmost respect and gratitude, we are granting veterans and Gold Star Families free access to the iconic and treasured lands they fought to protect starting this Veterans Day and every single day thereafter.”
The special gift officially started on the most fitting possible day — Veterans Day.
In order to take advantage of the free access, it’s a matter of presenting valid veteran identification, which could be a Department of Defense ID card or a Veteran ID card. Gold Star families simply have to provide to a park ranger a printed voucher indicating their status.
Adding to the generosity is the ability for veterans and gold star families to bring up to three additional people, who will also be granted free access.
Trump’s new program expands on an earlier program that already allows active duty, National Guard and reserve personnel to access the same areas for free.
The decision to grant free access to hundreds of millions of acres of federally managed land was widely praised on Twitter. First Daughter Ivanka Trump weighed in on the matter, thanking her father and the Department of the Interior for making it happen.
With the utmost respect and gratitude, starting this #VeteransDay and every day thereafter, all veterans and Gold Star families will be granted free access to the treasured National Parks they fought to protect!

President Trump, by far, has done more for America’s military than any president in modern history — that’s indisputable. From completely revamping the VA health system to making sure the most heroic troops are awarded the appropriate commendations, Trump loves the troops.
Adding to that, unlike past presidents — including former President Barack Obama — Trump has managed to keep our troops as safe as realistically possible thanks to his efforts to not start unneeded and expensive wars in the Middle East.
We applaud the president and the Interior Department for granting our veterans and Gold Star families this wonderful gift.
