As we all well know, Democrats have spent the past six months attempting to scare Americans to death over COVID-19 on top of shaming them for even having remote thoughts about holding large family dinners for Thanksgiving or Christmas — or at any time for that matter.
So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi faced tremendous backlash for wanting to initially follow through on holding a lavish, fancy traditional dinner in the U.S. Capitol for incoming new members of Congress.
Why in the world would it be fair for Pelosi and her new Democrat colleagues to gather in a large group for a dinner. Just because they’re members of Congress?
Leading up to the event, Pelosi faced increased pressure from both Republicans and Democrats, which forced her to defend the dinner by insisting that all social distancing measures would be in place and that the dinner was actually signed off on by the Capitol physician.
But the pressure was intense, so the dinner gathering was changed from mandatory in-person to allowing new members of Congress the option of taking their meals to go, according to USA Today.
“Our office strictly follows the guidance of the Office of Attending Physician, including for this dinner. To be a further model for the nation, this event has been modified to allow Members-elect to pick up their meals to go in a socially-distanced manner,” Pelosi’s chief of staff Drew Hammill tweeted.
The pressure to cancel the dinner persisted, even catching the attention of former first daughter Chelsea Clinton, who essentially begged Pelosi to scrap the dinner plans altogether.
Please cancel these in-person dinners, @SpeakerPelosi & @kevinomccarthy to keep everyone safe from #covid19 – yourselves, your new members, servers, the Capitol police and all of their families and contacts. And, to show public health leadership. https://t.co/HC1AOYYBgp

It didn’t take long for the Pelosi camp to completely buckle, as Hammill later indicated that the in-person event had been canceled and stated that Congress’ newest members-elect would only have the option of taking their boxed dinners to-go.
“Members-elect are now picking up their boxed meals and departing the Capitol. There is no group dinner,” Hammill tweeted.
At the end of the day, I’m confident in saying that I don’t think a majority of Americans would have cared much that new members of Congress were invited to an exciting, fancy dinner as they prepare to embark on their new careers.
The problem is that Democrats in Congress often seem to think that the laws and orders they create for Americans don’t really apply to them, and freedom-loving Americans won’t stand for that.
Don’t tell me that I’m not allowed to have more than X amount of people within the confines of my home for Thanksgiving if you’re not willing to abide by the same rules. It doesn’t work like that.
But we shouldn’t be surprised, this is the same woman who helped shut down hair salons across the country and was later caught on camera treating herself to a haircut inside a salon, not long after.
