One of the most outspoken conservative former sports stars in modern history will soon be entering the halls of Congress, as NFL legend Burgess Owens has reportedly secured a victory over his opponent in the state of Utah.
According to Breitbart, as of Friday night the former NFL star held an “insurmountable” 2,095 vote lead lead against his opponent, the incumbent Democrat Rep. Ben McAdams. The race was close, with the Salt Lake Tribune reporting that Owens garnered 47.50 percent of the vote to McAdams’ 46.93 percent.
“If Owens’ lead holds as those and any remaining ballots in Utah County are counted ahead of the final canvass next week, he will be one of two new members in Utah’s six-member congressional delegation,” the paper reported.
Owens, much like President Donald Trump, has winning in his blood. From a Super Bowl championship with the Oakland Raiders to winning a coveted House seat against a popular incumbent Democrat, Owens’ victory is impressive, but not surprising.
He spent much of his campaign hammering the left for venturing too close to full-blown socialism, which obviously resonated with voters in the state of Utah. As Breitbart reported earlier this year, Owens had quite a bit to say about the state of the country and singled out fellow sports stars like Colin Kaepernick as examples of how modern sports have become too political for most Americans’ taste.
“My generation has dropped the ball. We have allowed the socialists and Marxists to get in our school systems and teach our kids a different way than we were brought up. Kaepernick is a good example. In today’s society, our greatest enemy is socialists and Marxists who lay in wait and attack our most vulnerable. In this case, you have kids going to school fresh-eyed and excited about life and looking forward to a great future, but they come out anti-American Marxists,” Owens said in February.

Adding to the glory of Owen’s congressional victory is the fact that in a year that was touted to be a “blue wave” for House Democrats, Owens’ win marked the 12th seat in the House to go from blue to red.
He also received praise from Trump on several occasions, especially after he continually reminded Americans during appearances on Fox News and other outlets that Trump has done more for the Black community in his first term than any other president combined, in modern political history.
Owens often tells the story of his grandfather, Silas Burgess, who went from slave to chasing the American dream because of hard work and the pursuit of happiness.
“By the grace of God, and the courage of slaves who believed in freedom, Silas escaped through the Underground Railroad and settled in the great state of Texas,” Owens said at the 2020 RNC. “He went on to become a successful entrepreneur. He built his community’s first church, first elementary school, and purchased 102 acres of farmland, which he paid off in two years.”
That’s the kind of message that Black Americans want to hear, especially after Democrats have spent decades holding the minority community down.
Owens is a true inspiration for all Americans and we have no doubt, whatsoever, that he’ll do great things during his time in Congress.
