The American people are growing sick and tired of politicians, especially governors, who are using the COVID-19 pandemic to test just how far their power can reach into our lives. Adding to that, most governors who fit into that category are also the ones who many argue have completely mismanaged their states’ response to the pandemic.
A prime, shining example of a Democrat governor who made more than his fair share of bad calls during the pandemic is New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Not only did he make some of the worst — and deadly — decisions during the pandemic, his state is also facing an embarrassing budget deficit of $63 billion.
However, according to The New York Post, that didn’t stop the greedy governor from padding his bank account, as he just received a $25,000 raise, which increases his yearly salary to a staggering $250,000.
That will officially make him the highest paid governor in the United States. And the most undeserving, to say the very least.
Adding to the outrage of raising his salary during the state’s financial hardship is the unbelievable fact that he’s essentially the only one to benefit, as the state’s 213 lawmakers and judges did not receive a raise for 2021.
Why didn’t they get a pay bump? COVID-19, of course — at least that’s what the Commission on Legislative, Judicial and Executive Compensation offered as an excuse.
“Substantial additional state monies will be needed to deal with the pandemic, including providing face masks, virus tracking, contact tracing, enforcement efforts, and distribution of the hoped for new pandemic vaccine,” the commission wrote as part of a report.
“Granting raises to public servants, no matter how much they might otherwise deserve them, is simply not possible at this time.”
Apparently those rules don’t apply to the high and mighty Gov. Cuomo, as he’ll take his extra $25,000 straight to the bank with a big smile on his face.
Not only is Cuomo receiving a healthy bump in pay come January 1, 2021, during the pandemic, he somehow found time to write and publish a new book in October called “American Crisis,” which has already shot to the top of the New York Times Bestseller List.
In other words, COVID-19 has been quite lucrative for Cuomo.
It should be noted that Cuomo’s inner-circle of state government officials, including Lieutenant Gov. Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James and Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, will also be receiving healthy raises at the beginning of the year.
While this news shouldn’t come as a surprise, especially from a corruption-rich state like New York, it’s still beyond furiating for the average American citizen, especially residents of New York who not only have to wade through harsh and unconstitutional pandemic restrictions, but also figure out how to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads.
This is exactly why Americans despise politicians, especially the greedy, heartless kind.
