President Trump kept another campaign promise as the U.S. government received payment from Mexico for damage to the border fence from illegal immigrants attempting to cross into the U.S. from Mexico. There are now 400 miles of a continuous border wall on the U.S./Mexico border.
The Washington Examiner reported that the “U.S. government collected its first fine as part of a new bilateral deal that forces Mexico to prosecute anyone who damages the fence along one part of the southern border and send penalties collected to the United States.”
Former California Border Patrol Chief Gloria Chavez said they collected a “$600 fine in lieu of going to jail in Mexico for damaging the border wall.” The report stated that Border Patrol “made $396,000 worth of repairs at 1,300 cuts in its fence in fiscal 2019.”
Chavez said after she “saw that number,” it was time “to hold these people accountable that are cutting our border fence.” The U.S. and Mexico governments came together on November 22, 2019, to sign an agreement saying that Mexico will “start arresting, prosecuting, and seeking damages from anyone caught attempting to destroy border barrier in southeastern California.”
Former California Border Patrol chief Chavez said, “look at the money that we [the U.S. taxpayers] are spending” on the border wall “trying to fix the mesh fencing.” Chavez said she was sending “repairmen” to fix the “nightly breaches” of “cuts to the fence.”
The report states that “the U.S. has recouped $1,273 in four instances where Mexico prosecuted people for attempting to blow torch or saw through the older mesh and scrap metal fencing that was installed during the Clinton, Bush and Obama administration.” This is only the beginning the report says that “another 15 cases are before the Mexican courts.”
Border Patrol authorities, in multiple states, told the Washinton Examiner that the attacks on the older parts of the border fencing are a testament to Trump’s wall’s success. The new fence’s defenses forced illegal immigrants to go to the older parts of the wall in order to enter the country. Anthony Porvaznik, an Arizona Border Patrol authority, told the media outlet that “the height of the fence is a deterrent in of itself, and the footing keeps people from burrowing under.”
Someone check on Anderson Cooper and the rest of the CNN pundits. They can’t be doing well knowing that Mexico is, in fact, paying for the wall through programs such as this. The mainstream media hates President Trump because he delivers.
President Trump is not a legacy puppet, like many U.S. politicians. They can’t control him. They said Mexico would never pay for the border wall, yet the U.S. is now collecting funds to help partially pay for the wall.
Strong borders protect countries.
